What is a better use of $1: a Sunday Houston Chronicle or a Texas Lotto ticket? It's something I debate every Saturday: Spend $1 on a Houston Chronicle Sunday early edition, or a lotto ticket. I figure: The Chronicle: I might get a decent coupon or two, but then I have to flip through nonsense articles, polarized op-eds, unfunny politicized comics, and travel news about places I could never afford, or... A Lotto ticket, for a visceral thrill of a win that will never happen. Of the two, which is the better use of a buck?

Houston, why won't the Houston Chronicle publish this? In my local paper (I'm just outside of Houston) it ran an article written by Kay Bailey Hutchinson in which she asks for your opinion of issues. I take the Houston Chronicle daily but have yet to see this article about opinions wanted. If your interested here is the link to her survey: http://aiss.enews.senate.gov/subscribe/survey?f=22 Sweet mom, your right. I miss the Houston Post and the comptetion it brought. At least all aspects of the news was covered then, not like today.
Is the Houston Chronicle showing it's Democrat bias and lack of journalistic integrity by it's attack on Perry? The Houston Chronicle has been attacking Republican Governor of Texas Rick Perry for months. It has assigned reporters like RICK CASEY who loves the tongue in cheek approach to his hit jobs. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/casey/7047150.html http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/casey/7015265.html Then you have Lisa Falkenberg whose articles on her experiences on being a new mother far out shine any other work she has done, but always has time for a hit piece on Republicans and her favorite target Rick Perry. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/falkenberg/7045164.html Today's article was about how Republicans are flocking to Democrat Bill White voting for a Democrat for the first time ever in some cases. The article tries to exploit the now buried bitterness of the Republican Primary in which Senator Hutchinson lost to Rick Perry. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/7059718.html The only problem is that the polls show no such thing. Rasmussen poll released today June 18th shows Perry beating White by 8 points - 48 to 40. Texas votes break around 60/40 in favor of Republicans. All statewide elected offices are held by Republicans. Even run of the mill articles on other subjects always make sure they get their punch and kicking in on Gov Rick Perry. Now the current facts are these - White is in the midst of a scandal involving his days as Mayor of Houston and profiteering from that position by giving out a multimillion dollar contract on his authority alone in wake of Hurricane IKE to BTCE then turning around shortly afterward and investing $1 million reaping a one year return of 52% on his investment. Whatever momentum the Democrats thought they had has now stalled. The question is about the Houston Chronicle and their unrelenting war on Governor Rick Perry - my question is 1 are they showing a bias for Democrats and 2 have they lost any shred of journalistic integrity? Rick Perry may not have the charisma or other wow factor - which is not the question - but it is the fact that Houston Chronicle has decided it is going after Perry no matter what and even if his challenger Democrat Bill White has been caught in the cookie jar profiteering from his time as Mayor of Houston - not a bad work about him yet.
What is the best way to land a great IT job, preferably in Houston? My husband has been searching FURIOUSLY for a job in his field here in Houston. He has tried Monster, Yahoo Hot Jobs, Career Builder, Dice, Houston Chronicle, cold-calling recruiters & staffing agencies, etc. Even when he does see new listings for VB6 or Oracle8 jobs, he rarely gets an interview. He has all of the qualifications, education, and experience. What is going on? He needs a job!
Houston Chronicle Endorses Obama, McCain...? What do you think about this endorsement? If you live in Texas, who are you planning to vote for? http://www.click2houston.com/politics/15320677/detail.html The article compare Hillary & Obama and says: ..." However, there is a decisive difference. Obama vows to reach out to independents and Republicans with a message of inclusion and cooperation," the Chronicle said. "He offers a historic opportunity to elevate national political dialogue to a higher ground. Those who insist on vitriol and obstructionism would be marginalized." ..sorry for the typo on "the article compares...
What do you all think of this? In today's Houston Chronicle, a story about a family and a church in Arlington. (Texas) http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/5045808.html I don't want to summarize for fear that I might bias the summary itself. The article's not that long (link above). What do you all think? Sorry Bryan. Didn't realize. Glad I could help, though. :) I'll add my response to this as "detail" here. It seems hypocritical to me that a church would reject someone for one sin (homosexuality) and not for others. Of course, it's possible that the church rejects someone's memorial service for any and all sins but if that were the case they would likely not hold any services. On the other hand, if the church rejected the service on the basis that the veteran was not a member of the congregation, I would understand that. A church, like any other organization or entity, has economic restrictions to overcome. Again, rejecting it on that basis would be fine with me but that's not what the church stated. Therefore I come back to my first point (above) regarding the seeming hypocrisy. Of course, an article in a mediocre daily like the Chronicle may skip over a lot of important context so I'll reserve final "judgement".
Yesterday's Houston Chronicle...? had an article in it that stated the HPD had collected over 6 million in red-light camera fines. What do you think HPD should do with the money? I think it should used for bonus for the hard work the police do.
What did Ron Paul say to the Houston Chronicle in defense of his pork barrell spending? beesting-As popular as he might be on the Internet, he still doesn't have a chance of winning. But you should care about what your candidate says. I'll put my bank account against yours that he will not be the next President. His Divine Shadow-Tell me more! Are you saying that he is connected to the Illuminati? How so? bootsont-The only thing to fear is fear itself. Remember who said that? idon'tknow-No one could know for sure who I'm supporting, but it will surely be the Democrat nominee. I'm not ashamed of that!
whats your opinion on this Enron story in the HOUSTON CHRONICLE? the story is dated Nov. 2, 2007 and is titled "Shrunken Enron still has some fight left", its about Enron Creditors Recovery Corp. taking legal action against Citigroup for screwing with some of Enron's old special purpose entities and vehicles. enron want somthing like $3.5billion back, and wants to give it to some of the people they wronged. enron has already given about $13billion back to its creditors. i think thats amazing considering that they owed like $60billion when they collapsed, and that the company was only worth like $3.5billion when they declared basnkruptcy. but whats your opinion on this? you can see the whole article at http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/steffy/5270413.html
this question appeared in dear Abby today 9/18/09 in the houston chronicle? I recently met a woman at a “Mommy and Me” class. We hit it off and started making plans for play dates, etc. During one class we started talking about our husbands, and I realized that her husband is someone I had a casual relationship with 10 years ago. I have avoided getting together with her ever since because I don't know if it is appropriate to tell her how well I know her husband. I have not had any contact with him, and I don't know how he would feel about my friendship with his wife. If we are to be friends, I feel I must be honest with her ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ok so my questions are 1) why does she feel obligated to tell the new friend all about her husband? 2) what does a "casual" relationship mean in this case? something like friends with benefits? if neither were married at the time why does it matter? 3) why isn't she concerned how her hubby will feel about a thhe old friend?

Did You See Illegal Alien Kills COP In HOUSTON? Of course pro illegal will say he is innoncent - By BRIAN ROGERS and MIKE GLENN Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal said today that he will lead the prosecution of the man accused of killing Houston police Officer Rodney Johnson. Referring to it as "coming out of retirement,'' Rosenthal said he could not recall the last time he took part in prosecuting a case, but guessed that it has been two or three years. A judge, meanwhile, ordered this morning that Juan Leonardo Quintero remain in the County Jail without bail. Quintero, 32, is charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting of Johnson near Hobby Airport on Thursday afternoon. Johnson had stopped Quintero, a Mexican national, for a traffic violation and arrested him because he had no identification. Police said Johnson failed to detect that Quintero had a pistol hidden in his clothing. Quintero, although handcuffed, managed to get his hands in front of him, pull the gun and kill Johnson while locked in the backseat cage of the officer's patrol car, investigators said. Rosenthal said this is a "bizarre'' case because Quintero is accused of killing Johnson even though Quintero was locked in the back of the car and could not escape. In this morning's hearing, state District Judge Joan Campbell granted a defense request for funds for such expenses as hiring an investigator. Rosenthal said he believes Quintero could come to trial sometime next spring. The next step in the case will be another court hearing in 15 days, he said, and the case could go to a county grand jury shortly after that. The arrest of Quintero has renewed debate over the enforcement of immigration laws and HPD's policy of not questioning suspects about their residency. Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt appeared on ABC television's "Good Morning America," this morning where he accused the federal government of not properly securing the nation's borders. With 250,000 to 400,000 illegal immigrants believed to be living in the Houston area, Hurtt said the resources are not available for HPD officers to assume a greater role in immigration enforcement. "I would need another 2,500 officers," Hurtt said. Hurtt was interviewed for the ABC program from Charlotte, N.C., where he is attending a meeting of the Major Cities Chiefs Assocation that he heads. Quintero was deported as an illegal felon in 1999, following a charge of indecency with a child, HPD officials said. Court records show Quintero was given deferred adjudication in that case. His previous criminal record included an arrest for driving while intoxicated, for driving with a suspended licensed and for failing to stop and give information after an automobile accident, HPD officials said.
What is the best online medium for selling a used car? I have a 2001 Ford Taurus SES in great condition with 114k miles that I am trying to sell. I have tried the Houston Chronicle and have had no luck there. I have had a few responses via Craigslist but no one serious enough to make an appointment to see the car. Out of places like autotrader, cars.com, vehix.com, etc., which site gets the most traffic and would be most likely to sell my car? Any other online sales suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
In baseball, what does it mean to rebuild the farm? I don't know much about baseball, but have taken to reading the blogs they have in the website for the Houston Chronicle because I have become interested in the Astros. Anyway, on the site, when discussing the Astros, everyone keeps talking about "rebuilding the farm" and that the farm system has holes, etc. What exactly does that mean? I am assuming that it means the team needs to be rebuilt but exactly what is the farm they are referring to?
Can you answer an immigration history question? What year did Mexico stop having slaves? Mexico should look in the mirror. According to the Houston Chronicle's Rachel Graves, around the turn of the 17th century, Mexico imported more African slaves than anywhere else in the New World. As a result, tens of thousands of blacks (no one knows for sure – the Mexican census does not recognize them) live in Mexico, mostly in destitute villages in its poorest states. An estimated 30,000 to 40,000 blacks live in Costa Chica. Do you know any thing about this? Who had slaves? So you say that there are no black decendants of Spanish/Mexican slaves living in that area of Mexico today? Be real sure ? Perhaps you are the ones that need to do your research ,and Clown Im as far from being a red neck as you are from being a real thinking person.Rude insults I expected from the pro illegal bunch . Truth hurts doesnt it.
