Houston CRE

What is a better use of $1: a Sunday Houston Chronicle or a Texas Lotto ticket?

It's something I debate every Saturday: Spend $1 on a Houston Chronicle Sunday early edition, or a lotto ticket. I figure: The Chronicle: I might get a decent coupon or two, but then I have to flip through nonsense articles, polarized op-eds, unfunny politicized comics, and travel news about places I could never afford, or... A Lotto ticket, for a visceral thrill of a win that will never happen. Of the two, which is the better use of a buck?

  1. The sunday paper has more odds of changing ur life then a lotto ticket.
  2. Lotto, the newspaper won't win you millions!
  3. lotto
  4. my rainy day fund is better than either of these
  5. I'd go for the newspaper...at least try to broaden your mind a little, even if you don't quite agree with what's written. Or maybe alternate...get a newspaper one week, a lotto ticket the next?
  6. You could line a birdcage with the chronicle. BUT, think how many more trees have to die for the paper versus a lottery ticket... Hmmm. Tough call.
  7. Well, you ask an interesting question that really only "you" can answer. It's a matter of personal preference. Either is fine - if you can't decide alternate what you buy. 1 Sunday the paper, next Sunday a Lotto ticket.
  8. lotto you could read the paper on-line . But you could win $$$$ if you play the lottery.
  9. The ticket...life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get.
  10. there is a 1:147,000,000 chance of winning the lottery there is a 1:3 chance you will enjoy the paper. I would take the paper.
  11. The Chronicle has a lot of good articles,& coupons, & you probably will never win the lotto, But you can't win if you don't play. 50%-50% #
  12. We do need some competition in the paper department here don't we. At least you can save some money with the coupons and afford that lotto ticket.
  13. The worst thing that can happen with the lotto is that you waste a dollar. The worst that can happen with the paper is that you read about all the worst things that happened today. I'd get the lotto ticket.
  14. I've read that paper...go lottery.
